The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Sherwood range proudly carries the name of the winery and reflects Sherwood Estate's commitment to the highest quality. The wines are varietally focussed and come from Sherwood Estates Rowley Crescent vineyard in Marlborough as well as selected growers in the Awatere Valley. The fruit was harvested at night and transported to the winery where the fruit was gently pressed. Selecting only the free run and light pressings the juice was settled and cool fermented for an average of 19 days. Following an extended three month period of yeast lees contact the various parcels of Sauvignon Blanc were blended together, lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling. Intense gooseberry fruit on the nose with hints of guava and papaya give way to a well balanced palate and long concentrated finish. (12 x 75 cl)

The Stratum range is crafted by our winemaker to reflect intense varietal fruit flavours from classic varieties producing finished wines of consistently excellent quality and wide appeal. The grapes for this wine are grown in Marlborough at the Rowley Crescent vineyard and selected sites in the Awatere Valley. The fruit was harvested at night and transported to the winery. Following pressing, the juice was settled and cool fermented for 17 days. After a three month period of lees contact the different lots were blended, lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling. The SauvignonBlanc displays abundant aromas of gooseberries and capsicum on the nose. The palate is fresh and lively showing rich concentration and a long lingering finish. This SauvignonBlanc is produced from grapes grown on Sherwood Estate's Selmes Road and Hammerichs Road vineyards in Marlborough. After harvest, the grapes went to the winery where the freerun juice portion was selected for barrel fermentation and ageing. Next, the wine spent 10 months on lees prior to blending, fining and bottling. The Clearwater Vineyards SauvignonBlanc displays ripe passionfruit aromas supported by touches of capsicum. The Sherwood range proudly carries the name of the winery and reflects Sherwood Estate's commitment to the highest quality. The wines are varietally focussed and come from selected parcels in the Sherwood Estate Vinyards in Marlborough and Waipara. All the fruit was hand harvested and upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was destemmed, lightly crushed and gently tipped into open top fermenters. Yeast was added to initiate the ferment after a five day 'soak' period. Three times per day the cap was hand plunged and spent an average of 16 days 'on skins'. Next, Malolactic fermentation and oak maturation was undertaken for two months prior to blending and bottling. This deep red coloured Pinot Noir displays ripe, sweet plum notes with an edge of complexity on the nose. The nose follows onto the palate complemented by the rich and rounded style supported by fine grain tannins and smooth finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £119.66

The Sherwood Riesling was harvested late for optimum ripeness, next the fruit was gently crushed and pressed and settled prior to undergoing a cool fermentation. Following a light fining and filtration the wine was bottled. This wine captures the true essence of Waipara Riesling with a nose displaying floral aromas with hints of lemon and lime. The aroma follows through into the well balanced, crisp and rounded palate while the wine is showing good concentration of tangy lime fruit character offset by touches of honey while it finishes in an off-dry style. The Clearwater Riesling is from selected fruit at the Whitestone and Weka Creek Vineyards in Waipara. The fruit was harvested in excellent condition and selecting only the free run juice, the Riesling was cool fermented for 21 days. After an extended yeast lees contact the wine was light fined and filtered prior to bottling. This Riesling displays both delicacy and finesse. The Clearwater range represents the very best varietal single vineyard wines from Sherwood Estate's own vineyards in Waipara. The fruit was hand harvested from the West Melton vineyard and in the winery a gentle pressing was undertaken with the juice fermented and aged on lees in French oak barriques . Following a light fining and filtration the wine was bottled. Matured on the lees to give this wine its wonderful complexity and character, this Chardonnay displays richness and concentration of flavour.
