Growing in these diverse climates allows Duck Pond Cellars to produce the best quality fruit for a wide selection of wines. Full of zesty and fruity flavours such as grapefruit and pineapple, this white wine reflects the warm sunny weather of the Columbia Valley. Showing a clean finish and bright acidity this pale coloured Chardonnay is a wine to enjoy. The grapes come from the Desert Wind Vineyard located in Eastern Washington on the Wahluke Slope. This site is considered a zone 3, the hottest in the Columbia Valley and the grapes are grown on the 480-acre vineyard in a southern facing block with a 2% down hill slope. The soil is very shallow and rocky and the vines are irrigated with an underground drip system. Double catch wires are used to increase air circulation during the growing season. Arcadias vivid perfume, elegant balance, and bright acidity are all evident in this great Chardonnay. The Napa Valley Chardonnay is a blend of fruit from the B.R.V. and Arcadia Estate Vineyards and from select vineyards in the cool Carneros district of Napa Valley. Fruit from the Arcadia Vineyard contributes crisp acidity and a mineral core, while B.R.V. adds richness. Fruit from the Carneros properties provides the tropical fruit and spiciness that the region is known for. The predominant impression given by the wine is that of deftness and balance, with bright acidity supporting ripe fruit flavours and subtle oak tones. The Napa Valley Chardonnay exhibits beguiling aromas of light toast, white flower blossoms, essence of gala apples, pear and apricots, interwoven with hints of lemon zest, vanilla and creme brulee. The aromas carry over on the palate with tones of white peach, lemon zest, lychee nut, pear and vanilla. Description: When making the StoneCellars Sauvignon Blanc, Winemaker Mary Sullivan focused on retaining the bright crisp fruit flavors of Sauvignon Blanc and highlighting the wine with subtle undertones of toasty vanilla and rich creamy peaches. In the final blend, Mary chose to complement the green apple and crisp citrus of the Sauvignon Blanc with approximately nine-percent Semillon for depth, complexity, and fullness with slight amounts of Gewürztraminer for a floral and spice notes and Chenin Blanc for a peachy softness. To round out the flavors with toasty, spice nuances, she barrel fermented a portion of the wine in French and American oak barrels for approximately two months. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £81.78
