Ashbury Grove Verdelho / Chardonnay South Eastern Australia
Description: Medium bodied with good mineral concentration this is a blend of Verdhelo and Chardonnay. Displaying soft floral note aromas that develop on the palate the well balanced acidity gives way to an enjoyable finish. Ashbury Grove range is made by Kingston Estate, based at Kingston-On-Murray which is approximately 220 km from Adelaide in South Australia. Kingston Estate was founded by Sarantos and Constantina Moularadellis, who developed their 40 acre. Today Kingston Estate is the 10th largest wine producer in Australia and remains one of Australia's largest family-owned wineries. Sourced from vineyards in the Riverland area of South Australia, where Kingston Estate have been developing their vineyards since 1998. The fruit was picked at optimum ripeness and immediately crushed with total de-stemming. The must was pressed to steel tanks and left to cold settle overnight. Fermentation was carried out at a controlled temperature in steel and the wine was racked off the lees in order to maintain the fresh fruit character. Finally, it was bottled after cold stabilisation and filtering and ready to drink on release.

In the mouth it is full bodied with a fresh, zesty acidity leading to a long, creamy finish. Oak 25% of the blend was aged for 4 months in barrels with monthly lees stirring. Vineyard San Carlos , located near the town of Cunaco , Colchagua Valley . Sourced from Chardonnay blocks with an average age of 12 to 14 years. Grape Variety Chardonnay 100% Harvest Machine harvested between the 4th to 10th of March, following a cooler than average growing season . All harvesting was carried out at night in order to keep fruit temperature to a minimum and thus minimise the potential for juice oxidation. Winemaking The grapes were initially crushed to a maceration tank and held at 10 º to 12ºC for 12 hours in order to to extract the aromas and flavours contained in the skin. 75% of the juice was then cold settled for three days followed by racking and cool fermentation in stainless steel with selected yeasts. The remaining 25% of juice was run to barrel with minimal settling and fermented with wild and selected yeasts with temperatures peaking at 20-22 º C. Following this the wine was matured on gross lees for 4 months before the blend was assembled, cold and protein stabilised and then filtered and bottled. (12 x 75 cl)

Robertson Winery ASHTON VINEYARD Chardonnay RSA
Description: For the first time in many years there were good rains and cold temperatures during winter in Robertson. It was good in that it helped to build up a little ground water, as it was not necessary to irrigate the vines during the winter months. Spring arrived at the beginning of September; overall bud break was very good due to the cold conditions of winter. Night temperatures in October and November were significantly cooler compared to the previous year. This ensured good acidities. The Chardonnay vines are planted higher up against the mountains on gravelly Karoo soils with some clay and lime fractions. The high lime content in the soil ensures a healthy well drained growing medium for our vines. Chardonnay traditionally buds irregularly, therefore pruning only happens at the end of July to ensure even budding. Our harvest started on 28 January 2003. Attention to detail was well managed and has resulted in good potential in the quality of our wines. The Chardonnay grapes were the first grapes harvested in 2003 and were brought to the cellar in the first week of February. Grapes were harvested at a very ripe stage between 23,5º (12 x 75 cl)

Vina Falernia Chardonnay Elqui Valley Chile
Description: A new winery founded in 1995 by Aldo Olivier Gramola in collaboration with Italian enologist Giorgio Flessati, Vina Falernia is located in the Elqui Valley between La Serena and Vicuna, 470 km to the north of Santiago and it is at present Chile's northernmost wine estate. With the majestic Andes as a backdrop, their peaks gleaming white all through the summer, the vineyards benefit from currents of cold air which descend from the high mountains at night. The soils in the vineyards are composed partly of rubble which has eroded from the Andes mountains and deposited by glaciers and wind, and partly of alluvial sand and silt deposited by the river. While stony, gravely soils are regarded as poor for most crops, their excellent drainage qualities make them perfect for wine growing. The winery is located in the Vicuna area and is equipped with state of the art technology, including sealed pneumatic press which, in addition to producing perfectly clear must by applying very low pressure, also enable Vina Falernia to cold macerate white grapes prior to pressing while stainless steel tanks are used for temperature controlled fermentation. This yellow coloured Chardonnay has intense tropical fruit flavours combine with toasty oak to give a rich but supple mouthfeel. (12 x 75 cl)

Jackson Wine Estates LA CREMA Chardonnay Sonoma Coast California
Description: La Crema was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the cool Sonoma Coast. Continuing this tradition, La Crema pursues the ultimate expression of the Russian River Valley, Carneros and Anderson Valley by handcrafting wines of distinctive flavour which achieve elegance and balance The Sonoma Coast is located on the western coastal fringe of Sonoma County, starting with a narrow strip at the Mendocino County border and continuing through the mouth of the Russian River; then down to the Sonoma Carneros border of Napa. This AVA is the largest in Sonoma County yet is the least planted. Known for its dramatic flux in temperature, the warm days and cool nights allow gradual ripening of grapes with fully developed flavours, high natural acidity and low pH. The region’s cold conditions push the limits of grape growing making it particularly well suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The hand-picked Chardonnay grapes from cool climate vineyards located six to twenty-five miles from the cold Pacific Ocean are delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the belt delivery system for whole cluster pressing is used to to capture fresh fruit flavours. A clonal selection union of Dijon, Rued, and Wente add layers of complexity and aromatics and then 90% of the fruit undergoes barrel fermentation and 85% malolactic fermentation to enhance creamy textures. Finally, the barrel aged wine is left for seven months with bi-monthly lees stirring to create richness in the mouth. Melissa Stackhouse Wine Maker commented: 'Citrus aromas, lemon peel and green apple are balanced with clove and subtle vanilla in the background. Flavours of green apple, lemon and lime, with an unctuous middle, with spice and caramel that add richness and texture to the lingering finish..' (12 x 37.5 cl)
