At Saint Georges Saint-Emilion, in the very heart of the most beautiful Bordeaux wine-producing region, this 45-hectare vineyard undulates over due south facing slopes. The vines flourish in the prime conditions afforded by the regions' clay-chalk subsoil. Temperature controlled fermentation followed by ageing. The wine matures for 16 months in oak casks giving it all the finesse and fullness of a great red wine. It is a perfect accompaniment to game, roast beef or chicken. The wine possesses a remarkable harmony of body and bouquet. With its generous character, full-bodied flavour, rich bouquet and propensity for perfect ageing, this wine ranks among the first-class wines of Bordeaux. Georges and Petrus Desbois own the Louis XIV Castle. The Estate has been in the family since 1891. (24 x 37.5 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Chateau Pierreux Brouilly AC
Description: This wine is bright, deep purple in colour, with a forward, open nose. It has perfumes of raspberries and strawberries which are characteristic of good Gamay. A good depth of flavour on the palate, with enough structure to balance the wealth of ripe, cherryish fruit. Chateau de Pierreux, a 190-acre estate situated in the heart of Brouilly with a magnificent chateau winery built during the Renaissance, is one of the finest domains in the Beaujolais region. It has been controlled and vinified by Jean-Claude Boisset since the 2002 vintage. The 76 hectares of vineyard are planted on highly absorbent sandy soil, consisting of pink granite sprinkled with blue volcanic rocks. The 40-45 year old vines are planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare and are gobelet, or bush trained. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £64.40
