Description: The Mourvedre Shiraz is a deep red brick colour with black cherry and plum flavours accompanied by soft oak. The palate is smooth and supple, with fruit and tannin combining to provide a long, rich finish. This Italian family have six generations of winemaking experience, while the Casella family winery was founded in 1965. Today it is run by John Casella, an extremely talented and highly respected winemaker who aims to produce top qualitv wines from this region. John Casella was amongst the first to select premium vineyard sites used for the production of premium varieties and the vineyards now extend to 250 hectares. The vineyard is planted with Semilion, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Botrytis Semilion, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Gewurztraminer, Colombard, Marsanne, Verdelho and Durif. Casella have made tremendous advances in viticultural techniques, particularly with canopy training, minimal pruning and controlled drip irrigation.
