Vat 47 Chardonnay 1997 has deep, golden colour with a clean, fresh fruit lift and soft, creamy-toasty oak. Rich, ripe, up-front Chardonnay flavours showing fruit depth and intensity adds plenty of complexity to the front and middle palate. The wine finishes with a clean, lingering, fruit flavour with crisp, vanillin-toast overtones. (12 x 75 cl)

Description: The Vat 1 Semillon epitomises the benefits of patient bottle ageing that transforms this unoaked wine into a masterpiece. First produced in 1963 from Semillon grapes grown on our Short Flat Vineyard. Vat 1 is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and then quietly spends a few years 'resting' in bottles. Description: Tyrrell 's pioneered Pinot Noir in Australia in the early 1970s.In 1972, Tyrrell 's planted 2 acres of Pinot Noir which were among the first commercial plantings of this variety in the area.The 1976 Tyrrell 's Pinot Noir was selected in the 'Gault Milleau World Dozen'in 1979, after beating wines from all over the world in the 1979 Wine Olympics in Paris. Made from selected parcels of fruit from NSW, South Australia and Western Australia. The majority of the fruit was machine harvested after which the fruit was fermented in a combination of traditional hand plunged open vats and larger potter tanks. Maturation was then carried out in predominantly French oak casks for 8 months prior to bottling. A soft but generously flavoured style of Pinot Noir with aromas of sweet berry fruit and savoury mushroom character. Generous fruit on the palate is complemented by subtle nuances of oak and smooth tannins on the finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £63.01

Description: In 1981 we planted some Chardonnay vines in a single vineyard of our estate in Treiso, replacing an old vineyard of Barbaresco. Since 1985 we produce with these Chardonnay grapes a limited quantity of barrel fermented Chardonnay called Piodilei. We wanted to keep the quantity of this wine very small and in the meantime we wish to give the chance to a wider number of consumers to enjoy our Chardonnay. In September 1993 we decided to ferment in stainless-steel tanks a part of our Chardonnay: the results was a fresh and vibrant wine with evident hints of ripe fruits. After some experiments we noted that adding to this wine a 25% of the same Chardonnay fermented and aged in new oak barrels, we reached an interesting wine spicy taste and persistent after-taste. VINEYARD: Selected Chardonnay vineyards in the Robertson area and the Viognier hails from Ladismith in the Klein Karoo. CELLAR TREATMENT: The two varieties were fermented separately. A small percentage of Chardonnay was fermented in staved stainless steel tanks to generate an added dimension of richness.
