Rothbury Estate HUNTER VALLEY Verdelho NSW
Description: The Rothbury Estate Hunter Valley Verdelho is a bright green gold in colour. The wine shows vibrant tropical fruit characters and a touch of musk. The palate is generous and rich with an elegant, soft finish. Hunter Valley Verdelho has made a name for itself as one of Australia’s best unwooded, white wine styles. The Rothbury Estate Hunter Valley Verdelho style offers all the full fruit flavour of Chardonnay without the need for supporting oak. Region The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest viticultural zone and only a two-hour drive north of Sydney. The Hunter is famous for producing wines with distinct varietal and regional character. Although the climate is warm to hot, afternoon cloud cover and cool breezes throughout the night reduce the impact of the heat during vintage. Verdelho is sourced from the Upper Hunter Valley around the town of Denman in New South Wales. The conditions of this area combined with established vines, planted in the mid 1980’s, produce fruit with very good varietal flavours. As the vines mature the fruit can be picked slightly earlier, at around 12.5° Baume, and with better flavour profiles. Winemaking The fruit was de-stemmed, crushed and pressed on arrival at the winery. The juice was fermented at cool temperatures to retain the fresh varietal characters of the Verdelho. The wine was bottled early and received no oak treatment. (6 x 75 cl)

Briar Ridge Crop Thinned Verdelho Hunter Valley Australia
Description: The bunch thinning, where three bunches are discarded for every one kept, has worked to increase the intensity of the flavour. This is an approachable wine that is lively fresh and zingy with a touch of citrus drizzled over the varietal fruit salad flavours. This wine is a great example of a Verdelho, which is a much underrated variety than can be partnered with a wide variety of cuisine. Originally used to make fortified wines in Madeira, Australia has turned Verdelho into a World Class dry white table wine. A delicately fragrant wine with subtle fruit aromas and a light, dry finish. Briar Ridge Winery is located at the Southern tip of the Hunter Valley wine region in New South Wales, that’s only about two and a half hours north of Sydney. The winery has a beautiful aspect with the vines covering about 70 acres around the winery at Mount View. Winemaker Steve Dodd has 20 years of Hunter winemaking experience and this is expressed in the range of wines of intensive fruit flavour but refreshing lightness. The Semillon grape grown in the Hunter Valley produces a globally distinct wine and Briar Ridge has a great example that we are able to offer you, along with another white of fruity originality the crop-thinned verdelho. Briar Ridge is all about hand crafted quality wines; they clip nearly a third of the fruit bunches off the vines to ensure the rest develop the intense fruit flavours they are looking for. Esk Valley BLACK LABEL Verdelho Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: VINEYARDS Verdelho is a Portuguese variety originating from the island of Madeira, where it has long been used to make a white fortified wine. Recently it has become increasingly popular in Australia where it has been made as a crisp dry white. It is this example we have followed. Our Verdelho vines are planted in our Omahu Gravels vineyard in Hawke's Bay Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District. The vines have struggled in these poor soils and yield a small crop of early ripening and intensely flavoured grapes. WINEMAKING The fruit was hand harvested and whole bunch pressed, to tank and old barrels for fermentation. A selected aromatic yeast strain was used for the tank fermented portion and indigenous yeast used for the barrel ferments. The individual parcels were fermented dry and then blended and bottled early to capture the vibrant fruit flavours. WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS This is a highly aromatic wine, exhibiting aromas and flavours of stonefruit, passionfruit and citrus notes. It is a dry style with a good mouthfeel and body and a clean crisp finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or with seafood. (6 x 75 cl)
