Jackson Wine Estates LA CREMA PinotNoir Russian River Valley California
Description: Part of Jackson Wine Estates, La Crema winery was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and PinotNoir. The Russian River Valley is home to La Crema and the moderating conditions are ideal for cultivating PinotNoir with naturally bright acidity and concentrated black cherry fruit flavours. Hand-picked PinotNoir grapes from cool climate vineyards are delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the belt delivery system with sorting table purges damaged fruit so that 70% retention of whole berries before fermenting takes place for greater fruit expression. Next a four day, cold soak before fermentation is undertaken enhances soft tannins, next open top fermentation with punch-downs four times daily occurs to extract colour. Aged takes palce for nine months in 100% French oak barrels that refines the finish and the wine is then bottled unfiltered and unfined to express the pure character of PinotNoir. Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse had the following comments to make about this wine: 'Flavours are focused on dark fruits; blackberry, plum and black cherry with hints of coffee, clove and subtle exotic spices. The tannins are broad and offer a lingering juicy fruit finish.' Jackson Wine Estates LA CREMA PinotNoir Anderson Valley California
Description: Part of Jackson Wine Estates, La Crema winery was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and PinotNoir. This wine is from the Anderson Valley known for sloping hillside benches thta are blanketed by cool fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean during the heat of the summer growing season. These moderating conditions are ideal in cultivating PinotNoir with naturally bright acidity and delicate red cherry and cranberry fruit aromas. The Anderson Valley is Mendocino’s premier growing region for PinotNoir and this wine used the Dijon, heirloom Martini and Pommard clones to enhance the aroma and complexity. In the vineyard fruit-thinning is undertaken to remove late flowering clusters ensuring even ripening throughout the vineyards. Next the fruit is handpicked from the cool climate vineyards and delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the PinotNoir grapes are put on to a belt delivery system with sorting table to purge damaged fruit. Here only 70% of the whole berries are selected before fermentation takes place for greater fruit expression. Next a five day, 48 degree cold soak is completed before fermentation so that it enhances the silky tannin texture. Open top fermentation with cap punch downs four times daily extracts precise colour before the wine is aged 10 months in 100% French oak barrels refines the finish. Finally the PinotNoir is bottled unfiltered and unfined to express the pure character of this great varietal. Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse had the following comments to make about this wine: 'Exotic aromas are delicate and floral with a hint of blueberry and herbal black tea. The flavours are focused on lush dark red cherry fruit which provides an enticing plush texture. Bright acidity accented by cranberry and red cherries create a seductive fruit entry that leads to a broad lingering finish.' (6 x 75 cl) Price: £102.48
