W & J Graham's 1991 Vintage Port Description: The Graham family entered the Port trade in 1820, when William and John Graham, manning the Douro office, accepted a consignment of Port as settlement of a bad debt. The Port was sent on to their main offices in Glasgow, Scotland, where it proved very popular, and the seed had been sown. After the harvest, wines of Vintage potential are put into oak barrels called 'pipes'. Some eighteen months later a careful and painstaking series of tastings is held to judge exactly which wines of different vineyards merit inclusion in the final blend. If the ideal blend is achieved, the wine is then bottled without any filtration whatsoever approximately 24 months after the original harvest. Graham's Vintage Ports are the epitome of richness and concentration, and the 1994 vintage is a red full Bodied and Sweet port.
Quinta do Vale Meao 2001 VINTAGE Port Douro Portugal
Description: Quinta Do Vale Meao is owned and run by the fifth and sixth generations of the Olazabal family. Today the estate consists of 62 hectares of vines growing traditional varietals including Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cao for the range of Red wines and Port. This was the second year that Quinta Do Vale Meao produced vintage Port and it was greeted with as much enthusiasm as the 1999 vintage. In order to deliver the sophistication, complexity and style this port has been aged in new, first and second year barrels and this has produced a deep red/purple colour. The nose is showing plenty of spice and hints of dark forrest fruit. The aromas develop on the palate as the ripe fruits come to the fore showing great balance and structure in this big but stylish vintage Port. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £208.05

It was immediately evident during the vintage that the wines would be very intense and fruity. This has been borne out by their development and Graham's 1994 Vintage is rich, deep coloured and packed with fruit. It is distinctly reminiscent of the Graham's 1970. One of the top wines of the Vintage, to keep. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £760.45

W & J Graham's LBV Port Description: Like Vintage Port, LBV is a wine of a single year but it is not a 'declared' Vintage Port. Whereas Vintage Port spends only two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is aged solely in cask and then bottled at between four and six years old. At the time of bottling it has completed its maturation and is ready for drinking without the need for decanting. Graham's LBV has much of the rich full fruity flavour and 'grip' of Vintage Port, combining this with a softness gained through oak ageing. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £90.30
