Jackson Wine Estates PEPI Sangiovese California
Description: From the Jackson Wine Estates comes the Pepi range of wines. The Pepi Winery is an innovator and pioneer in the quality production of Italian varietals in California. Well-known for crafting the quintessential California Sangiovese, stellar Sauvignon Blanc, and crisp Pinot Grigio it also produces highly-acclaimed Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. Innovative and stylish the 'four surf board logo' is a representation of this range of wines. Committed to using environmentally sound vineyard practices along with an unpretentious style of winemaking the aim is to create everyday wines with intensity and focus. This Sangiovese dominated wine has a little Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Zinfandel added and in the winery it spent 6 months in French and American oak, while Winemaker Pat Pickett considered: 'Balanced, bright and harmonious with flavours of black cherry, cocoa and spices framed by dusty tannins. Aged for more than six months in French and American oak puncheons to reduce the wine to oak ratio and preserve the delicate, spicy fruit. In Chianti-like fashion, it’s bone dry, light and elegantly structured. The fruit’s delicate spicy flavours complement the aromas of cherry pie and nutmeg .' (6 x 75 cl) Price: £57.90

Brown Brothers Sangiovese Central Victoria Australia
Description: The wine. Sangiovese is one of five of Brown Brothers Italian varieties. The wine has a bright cherry colour with medium intensity. The nose displays aromas of maraschino cherries, savoury characters and a hint of tobacco. Light cherry flavours compliment the savoury characters that carry through to the palate. With fine tannins and balanced acidity this wine is suited to early drinking. The grape variety. Sangiovese is a variety with its origins in Tuscany, Italy. It is the most widely planted variety in Italy and is a fairly vigorous variety with a spreading habit of growth. It is used in many wines of controlled appellation in Italy, sometimes alone, but quite often mixed with three or four other varieties. The most common of these is Chianti where 50-80% of the grapes used are Sangiovese. Technical information. The grapes for this wine were grown out our Heathcote vineyard located on the Mt Camel range, at Corop in central Victoria. The fruit was harvested in early to late March at 12.9º to 13.9º baumé. The wine received gentle handling with the use of a sweeper arm fermenter and 50% of the wine was left on skins post fermentation to modify the tannins. The wine then spent time older barriques and puncheons. It was bottled with an alcohol of 14.5%, a pH of 3.43 and an acid level of 5.7 g/L. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £81.53

Rosemount Estate Diamond Label Varietal Sangiovese South Australia
Description: The 2003 vintage Rosemount Estate Diamond Varietal Sangiovese was the first bottling of this classic Italian grape and once again this vintages style complements the savoury flavours typical of this varietal. The wine was made to reflect the Tuscany region of Italy, where sangiovese is used to make medium bodied fruity styles known as Chianti. The fruit for this wine was sourced from selected vineyards throughout South Eastern Australia and one third of the parcels were selected to be put through barrel maturation in old oak to enhance depth and complexity. The remainder was fermented with gentle handling techniques of skins and wine to ensure palate softness and integrated tannins. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced a deep crimson coloured wine with ruby hues. A complex, intense nose with aromas of stewed plum, bright cherry is further enhanced by notes of spice and meat. A lively palate of sweet, ripe fruit flavours including cherries, plums, and a touch of quince, is complemented by spice notes. Medium bodied, juicy and inviting, the finish is long and stylish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £51.02
