Description: Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery to be established in the Dry Creek Valley since the days of Prohibition, when David Stare arrived in 1972. Today, Dry Creek Vineyard wines are easy to recognise due to the spirited yacht paintings that appear on the label of each bottle. David Stare's pioneering vision launched a new era of premium wine production in the Dry Creek Valley. Inspired by his travels throughout the traditional wine regions of France and Germany, Dave's focus was ever on quality. To persue this focus, small batch winemaking has been adopted because individual-lot winemaking promotes increased knowledge about how to manage each vineyard while offering maximum blending options and enhanced quality control. Dry Creek Vineyard insists on crafting each lot of wine separately with each vineyard lot crushed, fermented, and barrel aged separately. Approximately 75-100 different wines are produced each vintage, where fining is the exception, not the rule. This Zinfandel, with a little Petite Sirah, is aged 18 months in American and French oak, is a dark red colour with an enticing bouquet of blueberry, ripe cherry and creamy mocha. On the palate, sweet flavours mingle with juicy berry fruits; crisp acidity with citrus and cedar spiking the finish. (12 x 75 cl)

The result is a rustic, traditional style of Zinfandel, with ripe berry aromas and flavours bolstered by earthy, dusty notes. It is well structured with a balanced vanilla oak finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Hartford Family Winery HARTFORD Zinfandel Russian River Valley California
Description: Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. The fruit for the Russian River Valley Zinfandel is a blend of old-vine, dry farmed and low yielding Zinfandel vineyards predominately from the Russian River Valley. These old vineyards offer an impressive articulation of this idiosyncratic varietal. Zinfandel grown in the Russian River Valley is distinctive due to this regions cool maritime influence. Bright, natural acidity and vibrant fruit aromas and flavours are a result of typically cool fog-laden nights and warm days. These dry-farmed vineyards planted on low-fertility soils consistantly produce wines of exceptional density, and legendary extract. This old-vine Zinfandel provides alluring aromas of blackberry, sweet pipe tobacco, black pepper and anise complemented by flavours reminiscent of fresh baked blackberry pie with allspice, anise and caramel notes on the finish. Stunningly rich and concentrated, this Russian River Valley Zinfandel has incredible definition of fruit and sweet luscious tannins. Gallo Family Vineyards FREI RANCH Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley California
Description: Our Frei Ranch Vineyard Zinfandel is an elegant and well-balanced wine. It showcases characters of black pepper spice, plum, and ripe berry, matched with sweet vanilla and toast from the oak barrels. The grape clusters were de-stemmed, but not crushed, to retain the grape's varietal essence The grapes were then sent to vertical fermenters, where temperatures were kept between 88 and 92 F, with cap circulations occurring regularly for gentle, yet maximum, extraction of flavor and body from the grape skins. Once dry, the wine was transferred to oak barrels for an average of 13 months, during which the wine completed Malolactic Fermentation. The wine's rich character was accentuated by the use of American, French and European oak barrels. The barrels were racked every four to six months in the aging cycle to clarify the wine naturally and to assist in the aging process. The wine was not fined and only minimally filtered prior to bottling to retain the natural essence of the grapes. Zinfandel grapes for this wine were harvested from select sites on the Frei Ranch Vineyard. Grapes were picked during the month of September at 24.8 to 25.2º brix. The Gallo of Sonoma Frei Ranch Vineyard, first planted by Charles Dunz and Andrew Frei in the late 1800's, is located in the cooler benchlands of Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley. In this hillside location, soils are a combination of gravel, clay and loam. Its unique combination of climate and hillside Manzanita and Suther series soils yields Zinfandel grapes which make full-bodied, complex wines with aromas and flavors of plum, ripe berry and black pepper spice. Francis Ford Coppola DIRECTORS CUT Zinfandel Dry Creek California
Description: When Francis Coppola chose Sonoma County as the home for his new winery, he did so because of the area's beauty and winemaking potential. By selecting Sonoma, Francis provided the winemaker Corey Beck, a Sonoma native, with the opportunity to make wines with grapes grown in his proverbial own backyard. Director's Cut wines are the result-appellation-designated wines from Sonoma'sdiverse and distinctive appellations. Growing Zinfandel in the Dry Creek Valley straddles two worlds. One consists of the traditional farmer who dry-farms head-trained, spur-pruned vines. Balance is attained by virtue of the vines' old age as well as early canopy management and fruit thinning when needed. The other employs more modern methods, including bilateral cordon, spur-pruned on-wire trellising, drip irrigation, and carefully manicured canopies. Francis Forrd Coppola source our Zinfandel grapes from vineyards on the benchlands and hillsides which are farmed both ways. The combination of the area's climate, our vineyard sites, and the two types of farming methods used produces excellent fruit with intensely concentrated flavour. This Zinfandel was blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah for 12 months in French oak. Half the fruit was crushed whole berry and the must is fermented in open-top fermenters for eight days, with punch downs three times a day, to ensure maximum flavor and color extraction. After fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak adding a wonderful toasted spice and French vanilla essence to its heady aroma of rum raisin with hints of black currant and red cherry. Sweet raspberry jam with currant and red spice flavors are wrapped up in a soft and luxurious texture with moderate tannins. 'Winemaking and filmmaking are two great art forms that are very important in the development of California. They both start with raw ingredients-in the case of wine, the land and the grapes, and in the case of film, the script and the actors' performances. The winemaker takes these raw materials and ferments and blends. He says yes to this batch, no to that one. The director does the same thing: a series of yeses and nos, from casting and costuming to edits and sound mixes. In both cases you have to start with top notch r<
