| Description: |
 |
The Grand Cru vineyard of Montrachet lies between the picturesque villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, home to the world's greatest white wines. This fantastic vineyard enjoys a gentle easterly facing slope which catches the sun on summer evenings late into the day. The terroir is made up of a deep, gravely soil which has a limestone base, all of these factors are ideal for the growing of Chardonnay. Using traditional fermentation techniques and 12 months of ageing in Louis Latour oak barrels, the resulting wine is ripe with apricot, pear and honey notes and a fine balance between the alcohol and the acidity. This wine finishes with great persistence, and patience will be rewarded by letting it age in bottle for ten years or more. Soil: Chalk, gravel and limestone. Vinification: Barrel-fermented in Burgundian new oak casks and aged for 12 months. Montrachet Grand Cru 1998 tasted April 11th 2000: From the Puligny-Montrachet side of this world famous vineyard comes this super rich, dense and muscular Montrachet. Still closed, the oily rich liquid mineral palate combines with an earthy and lemon zesty fruit that powers through to a seductive honeyed nutty finish.
